"What to do during a Terrorist Attack

CUT TO
INT: DAY - Several People are huddled in SEPARATE areas in
a parking garage. They are all having quiet
conversations among themselves.
(Detective Creek with Russell - Kimberly with her daughter
Madison and Savanna. Three weekend warriors wearing camo
gear: Halsey Taylor, Bob Zane and Dan 'Popcorn' McCready.)

PAN TO

DETECTIVE VINCENT CREEK AND RUSSELL

RUSSELL
So what do we do now? We've been
here for three days. We need some
food.

CREEK
I'm still working on a plan

RUSSELL
Oh, good. I feel much better.
(He looks around at the
others)
You're a cop and you saved my ass.
That's puts you in charge.

CREEK
You want the truth? I don't have a
clue. I don't know anymore than you
do. I don't have any insider
information.

RUSSELL
Look, won't be long until these
people need food and water, or a
place to shit. Top it off we got a
blind woman and her kid. Someone
needs to do something.

CREEK
So why elect me?

RUSSELL
You're a cop. You're paid to take
chances.

CREEK
Meaning you think I should wander
out there and find us some food and
some porta-potties.

RUSSELL
Yeah. That's what I think.

CREEK
And my head won't get sliced off
why?

RUSSELL
Cause you the only one here with a
weapon.

A BEAT

CREEK
What about the soldiers?

RUSSELL
They're weekend warriors, man. Once
a month I think they do pretend war
in the woods. If you hadn't noticed
there isn't anything pretend about
this.

CREEK
I got six bullets left. The rest of
my ammo is in my locker at the
station. And I'm not such a good
shot as to shoot a disc out of the
sky. It's not like they tell you
when they're coming. Their damn
near silent.
You find out after it's too late.
Remember your friends?

CUT TO:

FLASHBACK SEQUENCE: RUSSELL is trying to help a screaming
woman who is running down the street - he pushes his buddies
aside and grabs a shotgun on the way out the door.

WILL grabs a baseball bat and Matt grabs another beer.

WILL runs toward the woman and swings the bat at an oncoming
disc. The disc cuts through the bat like putty, severing his
head in the process. MATT screams 'Oh, Shit!' As a disc comes
out from the trees and cuts off his head, his body falls to
the sidewalk, his head rolls away. RUSSELL takes aim and
shoots a disc from the air and it tumbles away, he pumps the
shotgun again and knocks another one away. The girl is still
running when she is taken out by a flying disk. He yells and
manages to hit that one as well. His shotgun is now empty and
a disc puts it's sights on him. It zeros in and he swings the
gun like a bat and barely deflects it. A car races up and
comes to a screeching halt next to him - The passenger door
opens and DETECTIVE CREEK yells for him to jump in. RUSSELL
tosses the ruined gun away and jumps in. The car spins its
wheels and drives away.

CUT TO:

RUSSELL
I remember. I also remember you
smacked into that garbage truck
when you drove like a crazy man
through the ally and that's why
we're stuck here.

CREEK
Focus on the part where you're
still alive.

CUT TO:

KIMBERLY, MADISON AND SAVANNAH.

Madison is asleep on her moms lap. Kimberly is stroking her
hair. Savannah is sitting next to her sipping on a bottled
water, she passes the water to Kimberly but Kimberly just
shakes her head. Savannah puts the water down next to her.

SAVANNAH
How's Madison doing?

KIMBERLY
Good. She's got a good head on her
shoulders for a kid. She actually
takes care of me. Role reversal.

SAVANNAH
Have you always been . . . You
know, blind. I can't believe I just
asked that -- I'm sorry. Just
ignore me.

KIMBERLY
No. That's okay, Savannah. I'm okay
with questions. I had an operation
to correct my sight. It went bad.
There was a lawsuit and we won, but
that didn't replace my eyes. Now my
eyes are Madison.

There are screams in the distance, gunshots, then horrible
silence. Savannah begins to weep quietly.

KIMBERLY
You lost someone, didn't you?

Savannah nods her head.

SAVANNAH
My fiance. He saved my life. Pushed
me out of the way and those things
. . . those things. What are they,
Kimberly?

KIMBERLY
I don't know.

CUT TO:
The three soldiers - there is a large duffel bag at their
feet.

MCCREADY
Zane, we got to do something.
There's mayhem out there. That's
what we're trained for.

ZANE
No, Popcorn. What we're trained for
is to help during a flood or
earthquake or fight against a
terrorist attack. Not these fucking
things that cut off your damn head.
We stay put -- for now.

HALSEY
I agree with McCready. People need
our help. I don't want to hid out
here any longer.

ZANE
Stay out of it, Halsey. I'm the
team leader. I say when.

HALSEY
You're team leader on maneuvers,
this is real.

ZANE
And we're going to stay put until I
figure this out.

MCCREADY
It's not right letting people die
like this.

ZANE
We can't help anybody if we're
dead.

HALSEY
(looks at the duffel bag)
We got firepower, we can cover each
other until we get to a safe place,
take these people with us. They all
look tired and hungry.

ZANE
Keep your voice down. We only use
the weapons when it's essential

More distant screams, a siren blares a few minutes then
abruptly stops.

Russell walks over to the soldiers.

RUSSELL
I've been watching you. What's in
the bag?

ZANE walks up to RUSSELL and blocks his way.

ZANE
Nothing a civilian needs to worry
about.

RUSSELL
If you hadn't noticed we got a
blind woman and her kid over there.
The kid's probably hungry. If
there's food in there, then it is
my business.

HALSEY
There's no food.

RUSSELL
Then you don't mind if I have a
look.

ZANE gets a puffy chest, and puts his hands on Russell.

ZANE
Government property, back off.

RUSSELL
You're gonna want to remove your
hand or you'll need physical
therapy.

ZANE
Is that so?

RUSSELL takes down ZANE so fast the others didn't have time
to react. Zane struggles to get up but Russell won't let him.

CREEK places a hand on Russell's shoulder.

CREEK
(Softly)
Let him go, Russell.

RUSSELL pauses for a moment then lets the soldier get to his
feet.

ZANE
I could have you arrested for that.

CREEK
You don't want to go there.

ZANE
Why not? Who the fuck are you?

CREEK
A cop.

Screams are suddenly heard, and they grow louder. Everyone in
the parkade runs to one side of the structure. They see
several people run from a nearby building and into the open.

The Parkcade group yells for them to run faster. Then out of
the sky come the discs. It kills all the runners one by one.
One woman almost makes it to the cover of the parkade but is
killed and her head rolls to a stop at Madison's feet.

The little girl screams.

CUT TO:

INT. PARKADE NIGHT

The soldiers are huddled in their own area, quiet but awake.

Savannah, Kimberly and Madison are asleep at the opposite end
of the structure. CREEK and RUSSELL are watching in the dark -
not knowing what to expect.

RUSSELL
So what do we know?

CREEK
About what?

RUSSELL
The discs. What do we actually know
about the discs.

CREEK
Very little.

RUSSELL
No, I mean details. The discs only
come out in the day.

CREEK
As far as we know.

RUSSELL nods

RUSSELL
And for some reason, even in this
open car garage, They could just
fly in but they don't.

CREEK
No they don't.

RUSSELL
That is a big fucking clue to how
these things work, don't you think?

CREEK
I'm not a scientist or electronic
genius, I don't have any answers.

RUSSELL
But think about it. If they don't
fly around at night then where do
they go?

GUNFIRE interrupts from within the parkade. CREEK pulls his
gun and runs toward the shots. The soldiers are using
automatic weapons and shooting in the dark.

CREEK
Stop firing, now.

CREEK points his gun at ZANE.

ZANE
There's something in the dark.
Something big.

CREEK
So you just decided to shoot at it,
even though you didn't see what it
was.

RUSSELL
So that's what was in the bag.

MCCREADY
Its our business.

CREEK
(to Zane)
Shoot another round and I'll put
you in cuffs. And when daylight
comes, you better home to God you
didn't kill anybody trying to find
a safe place.

HALSEY
Zane's telling the truth,
Detective. There was something out
there, moving in the shadows. It
didn't move like it was human. I
think it was something else.

CREEK
You better hope so.

FADE TO:

INT. LATER ON THAT NIGHT. THE FOCUS IS ON SAVANNAH AS SHEW
DREAMS. WE SEE WHAT SHE SEES - A FLASHBACK TO ZACK'S LAST
NIGHT WITH SAVANNAH.

Savannah and Zack enter a bar. Several people are in there
hiding. Tammi the server comes up to them.

TAMMI
You people okay?

SAVANNAH
Better now.

TAMMI
How did you two make it here
without, you know, the discs
killing you.

ZACK
We're fast runners.

SAVANNAH
Do you have anything to eat - we
have money.

TAMMI
Just some popcorn, and some warm
beer. The coolers are out.

ZACK
Beer. It's whats for dinner. Bring
me a pitcher . . .
(Looks out the window as a
disc zooms by, then hears
a scream which is
drastically cut off)
Two pitchers, please.

CUT TO

LATER THAT DAY

ZACH has eaten most of the popcorn and there is only a half a
pitcher of beer left out of four.

ZACH
It'll be dark soon. We should go.

SAVANNAH
You think that's a smart idea?

ZACK
You heard the rumors. The discs
don't fly at night.

SAVANNAH
Those are just rumors. What if
they're wrong. We can hardly see
those fucking things in the
daytime. We'd be totally exposed in
the dark

ZACK
We'll do what we did to get here,
stay as close to the buildings as
possible.

SAVANNAH takes his glass of beer away.

SAVANNAH
You've had enough of this.

ZACK
Excuse me?

ZACK takes the glass back and downs the liquid.

SAVANNAH
If you're wrong Zack, we're dead.

ZACK
I'm not wrong.

TAMMI comers up to the table.

TAMMI
More beer?

ZACK
Sure.

SAVANNAH
No. Any word on the radio about
what's going on?

TAMMI
Since those things arrived the
phones,cable , every things out.
Last I heard from a soldier passing
by is even the police aren't any
help. There is a rumor the discs
don't fly after dark.

ZACK
See, I told you.
(Pours another glass of
beer)

SAVANNAH
It's a rumor. Any one here tried
it?

SAVANNAH looks around the room at the few scattered patrons.
Most are sleeping, some are just sitting at the tables
starring out the window - silent.

TAMMI
Are you kidding. At least we got
shelter here, and a bathroom and
plenty of water. I got several
DVD's I'm going to stick in later
tonight to get peoples minds off
what's going on.

ZACK
You might want to stay away from
any horror movies.

TAMMI
(Rolls her eyes)
Right. I don't know what you two
are thinking, but you're better off
just camping out here. Where its
safe. I'm sure help will be here .
. . Sooner or later.

CUT TO

Shot from outside the window looking in as ZACK, SAVANNAH and
TAMMI stare out the window - and a DISC flies by.

CUT TO

EXT. VARIOUS ANGLES OF THE DESERTED STREETS - NIGHT

ZACK and SAVANNAH slip out of the bar and head down the
street close to the buildings. The pair speak in loud
whispers.

SAVANNAH
There's something strange going on.

ZACK
You mean besides those discs
cutting off everyone's heads.

SAVANNAH
Don't do that.

ZACK
Do what?

SAVANNAH
Make fun of me all the time.

ZACK
Then don't say stupid things.

SAVANNAH
Sometimes I really hate you. Just
listen for a minute. Tammi said the
cooler was out, right?

ZACK
So?

SAVANNAH
Then how come some of the street
lights are still working and the
power works in most of the
buildings? It doesn't make any
sense.

ZACK
Don't know, don't care. I just want
to get out of this town. Maybe this
is the only place this is
happening.

SAVANNAH looks around at the creepiness of the dark.

SAVANNAH
Some how I seriously doubt that.

As ZACK and SAVANNAH pass a dark alley there is suddenly a
strange noise from within the dark.

ZACK peers down the alley - his eyes try to adjust to the
darkness - his eyes go wide.

ZACK
(Yelling)
RUN!

ZACK and SAVANNAH run down the street in the dark. SAVANNAH
takes the lead and rounds a corner. ZACK is gone.

SAVANNAH stops running, she goes back around the corner. ZACK
is nowhere to be seen. The street is empty

SAVANNAH screams his name. Her voice echoes in the emptiness
of the streets.

CUT TO

BLACKNESS . . .

Then . . .

A SCREAM.

CUT TO

INT. THE PARKADE- DAYBREAK

SAVANNAH wakes from her horrible dream- everyone in the
parkade is running to the edge of the parkade walls to peer
into the darkness.

MCCREADY
The bodies. They're gone. Some
thing has taken the bodies!

Where the bodies had fallen the previous day the only proof
that remains are dried pools of blood.

PAN TO

KIMBERLY has remained against the wall holding tightly onto
MADSION and trembling with fear.

FADE OUT
